Texture is a must for Spring!

reptile wedge
Gojane.com $26
texture snake skin bootie
Gojane.com $25 now!

You must have texture this spring. It is so great to balance the softness of spring pastels with some edgy texture from an animal skin (faux of course), cork or even rope. These textures look amazing with all white, neutrals, any pastel  and vibrant colors as well. It brings sophistication to any basic outfit. Purchase a pair in a neutral color like browns, creams, gray and black and white.  This will make it easier to pair back color without clashing. Any style is fine. Do what you are comfortable with, but I sure do favor a wedge.

Today was a great example of how to outfit  using this. I wore a floral maxi skirt in pastels with my BCBG embossed leather skin wedge and a cork belt to add some texture. Without these accessories my ensemble would have been a bit more basic.

These are more examples of a textured shoe. Skin, roping and embossed leather.

What to wear???

Ever stare at your closet and have no clue what to pair together? Well, I know I have and here is my solution to you. It is so important to subscribe to at least one fashion magazine a year. I recommend for a more realistic take on fashion to subscribe to Lucky. It has great styling tips on fashion and beauty, it gives great information on unique and trendy boutiques throughout the country and it gives "lucky breaks" (discounted items just through Lucky).
First thing you want to do is step away from your closet. Take a minute to go through your magazine to get inspired.  It will give you some fresh styling tips and ideas. Think about the pieces you own and how you can translate these looks into an outfit for you. Also, if you know about an event ahead of time or if it is just for work the next day, take the time to pull the night before. Don't wait til the last minute. If you couldn't figure it out with lots of time, I am afraid what you would do with no time. Good luck(y)!

Did you know?

No time to shop? Well did you know most stores these days have a free Personal Shopper (a sales associate who is able to spend more personalized time with you to provide a more elevated level of service)? Utilize what is available and make it work within your schedule. Call a store ahead of time and let them know what you are looking for. Include what your needs are, what you like and don't like, your size  and how much time you will have to spend. This will allow them to narrow down your options to stay within your time frame and only pull what is truly necessary or what will come the closest to meeting your needs. Not every store has a "Personal Shopper" but most stores are willing to pre-pull items in order to secure a sale, so don't hesitate to ask.

Don't sacrifice style for comfort. My weekend wear.

These boots I could live in everyday.  Unfortunately they do not go with everything...but they do go with lots. This is Saturday fun family day just running around.

It was  a crossfit kinda mornin. This is the after my workout chillax shot of the Pumas.

The remainder of my weekend is all comfort with my plaid buttonup, cutoff shorts and good oleToms.

Pink and red trend. Don't be intimidated by color!
Pairing colors in the same color family really make a statement. Ideally you would do this by color blocking your outfit, or using two pieces in solid colors, but here we decided to use a little print and even a graphic design to keep my girl's look youthful.  Examples of really great colors to pair together would be blue and purple, green and turquoise, red and orange or even yellow and coral (one of my faves). So have fun with it! Can you dig it?

The art of mixing prints

stripe grandpa cardi Urban Outfitters
floral scarf Anthropologie
The art of mixing prints. You must have one dominating print and one supporting print. Your dominating print should have the most color and design in its print. Your supporting print should be a broader print with two basic colors, this acts as a neutral (i.e. a stripe or polka dot). There should be one common color between  the two prints that creates one cohesive look. Any questions?
